Question 3: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Firstly whilst conducting research I found that Horrors/Teen horrors were sometimes distributed/produced by ‘New Line Cinema,’ so i thought this would be an ideal distrbutor for our film as one of the films they produced is well known teen horror called 'Nightmare on elm street'. However this is a majorly known American distributor so there would be less of a chance of them wanting to distribute our film.

So in order to distribute our low budget film we would have to virally distribute our film using sights such as facebook, youtube and twitter to share our film. Currently 37.4 million UK adults use Facebook regularly, 32.1 million UK adults use YouTube regularly and 15.5 million UK adults on Twitter and this is juts in the UK alone, these sights are used by people all over the globe so we would be able to distribute our film globally. However we may not be able to controll the age group of the people who watch our film.

Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?

We chose to aim our film at a target audience of 15- 18 year olds as our film was a teen horror genre, we thought that after market research the ages who would be most likely to watch our film would be those from the 15-18 age group. The main way i found out what age group to target was by using a questionnaire, this questionnaire was given to 15 boys and 15 girls. An example of this questionnaire is below:

Question 5: How did you attract/address your target audience?

For our film we attracted our target audience in many ways, for example our storyline appealed to both male and females, however the gorish/action side of the film would mainly appeal to males. Our narrative was both intriguing and disturbing, but mainly to engage our audience we created an opening which incorperated the hermenutic code to grab our audiences attention and have them initially ask questions. We gae our audience little knowledge about who this infant is so they would be drawn to want to watch more of the film. An example of where the hermenutic code has been done in our opening are the initial shots of the young boy sitting in a deserted area as shown below:
The mid shots and close ups similar to these screen shots allow the audience to realise who the main characters are within our film and also help them understand the storyline.
The Wide shot of these main characters alow the audience to establish the characters identities and have a better understanding of them.
Another way we attracted our target audience is by using characters of a similar age to them to again give the audience an intimate connection with the film causing them to have a certain understanding of the events.

Lastly the diagetic music within our opening attracted our target audience as the heart beat grabs the attention of our audience and also the party music heard later in the opening is music which is commonly listened to by our target audience. As the music is commonly known amongst our target audience they are more likely to want to attatch the song to our film.

We addressed our target audience by asking them evaluative questions to do with our video using social networking sights such as facebook and also just simply asking people to view our video and answer 4-5 questions.

Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Media technologies i used and what i learnt:

1)Tripod

Through the tripod i learnt how to set up a tripod firstly by using the clips on the legs to open it up. I also learned how to ensure the camera would be steady by using the spirit level within the tripod. These are both important factors of learning when using a tripod because they help to ensure the shots will be filmed correctly so the audience understanding is contained.

2) Digital video camera

From using a digital camera i have learned how to film using the grid to make sure everything is properly positioned in frame. I also learnt you cant move the camera too fast as it will stop filming and say yourpanning too fast. I also learnt that when filming you cant zoom in as you loose focus on the camera and it just doesnt look good on film.

3) Apple mac
Through the apple mac i learned how to use the software to edit my film, i also learned how to 'take a picture' of a particual piece of text or a picture (this would be print screen on a regular computer) to put it in a document or on my blog.

4) Portable light generator

(our light was not exactly like this but this picture gives an idea to the equipment)

Through this light i learned how to manipulate the light to add to the horrific feeling of the film. The light also helped me to depict the childs zombie like features and behaviours to the audience.

5) Youtube
Through youtube i devolped my knowledge on how to share videos to the world, however the downfall of this is you dont know who is watching your videos.

6) Facebook & Twitter & Blackberry
Through social networking sights such as facebook and twitter we could gather a significant amount of audience feedback and also direct it at your specific target audience. Through the use of a Blackberry i could also gather audiences research by broadcasting my video link to a specific audience. I also learnt that blackberry is a good source of communication for our group to keep intouch with eachother through 'bbm' (blackberry messanger)

7) Slide share & Scribed
Through these programmes i learnt how to upload my word and pwerpoint documents so that i could embed them and put them onto my blog.

8) Imovie HD

Through this software i learned how to discover and develop editing skills so i could produce my video to a high standard. Particularly I learned how to put effects on my film so it could fade out at a certain point, i learned how to change the colour of my clips to make them black & white, cut my clips at certain points so they all follow a particular order and make sence together and edit the lighting within my clips to make it darker or a particualr part within the frame lighter. Also i learnt how to put non - diagetic audio into my film to add to the meaning behind the film and lastly i learnt how to mute certain parts of the diagetic audio within my film if i needed to.

9)Itunes & Clip converter

Through i tunes and clip converter i learnt how to convert audio from a copyright free site and download onto itunes in order to place it onto my film

10) Blogger
Through blogger i learnt how to blog and embed certain bits of information in order to show off my knoledge and make my blog as interesting as possible.

Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Firstly our film challanges forms and conventions of real media products just because of the subgentre we chose. Currently sub genres of media products are just commonly known as one type of genre for example:
               'Teen Horror',

                'Zombie horror',

                  'Supernatural horror',

                 or 'slasher.'
However our film challanges this by merging two types of sub genres together and beoming a 'zombie-teen horror' hybred film.
